Mike’s favorite quote and why:
“The moment a person takes 100% responsibility for their life, they transform their life.” (click to tweet!)
Mike says the most successful dentists he’s worked with are willing to take 100% responsibility for the outcomes of their life. They don’t play the ‘blame game’ and is constantly learning and growing – which he believes is the key to success.
What he does for the dental profession:
Mike founded The Schuster Center for Professional Development in 1978. The Schuster Center provides a different management model for creating a dental practice that is both fulfilling and profitable. The result is not only a pivotal change in the quality of care delivered, but also a profound change in the quality of life of the dentist, family, team and patients.
Mike’s difficult time story:
Mike shares the story about a young dentist he spoke with who is having difficulties with his practice and wants to quit. The said dentist jumped to advanced technical training too early. Mike believes that if new dentists take the responsibility to learn what they need to learn to be able to relate to people and not go so fast, and develop the communication and relationship-building skills as they build their technical capabilities, it will work.
Areas of opportunities that Mike sees in dentistry right now:
- The undiagnosed and untreated disease in dentistry is occlusal disease.
- Dentists that know how to do beautiful, conservative, composite dentistry.
The best advice Mike has ever received:
Dr. John Anderson of Pankey Institute’s advice to Mike, which was, “Don’t ever compete with anybody else. Become the best that you can become.”
The one habit that contributes to the success of dentists who work with Mike:
Save 10% of what you gross, and put it away.
Marketing pearl (tip):
Practice listening to what people are really saying.
What’s exciting Mike right now on what he does:
The people coming to their center and transforming their whole practice — and their life.
Internet / App resource that Mike feels is awesome:
Google products.
Mike’s book recommendation:
