So can you tell us a little more about what Morado Dental Academy is and what you do?
I am the owner of Morado Dental Academy. What I have done is compiled a rock star group of dental professionals that are forward thinkers and love to teach, and what we do is teach courses for dental professionals. I personally specialize in people, behaviors, and leadership. One of my really popular topics i get asked to talk about is the age groups and managing millennials. They are all online, self pay, self study courses and some do offer CE. The instructors are not employees, they are independent contractors that we recruit to help teach through our online platform. You probably saw the resource page, and that is coming soon. We wanted to create a resource for dental professionals, so that if you want to learn or read an article or even listen to a podcast, you can find it there.
What makes teaching millennials so different from other generations?
I learned the very hard way how to reach that age group. I have been teaching for over six years and I had to just dig in and find out why they are different. I had to learn how to understand them and find out what their motivators are, how to appeal to them, and how to speak their language a little. Millennials get excited about learning things that are new, however, they tend to have a “pie in the sky” view of the world which is great, but they often don’t understand the level of work and follow through to have that. However, if they are motivated and given opportunities to be creative, they will thrive. It all starts with leadership, and no matter who you hire, you have to set the tone. If its a younger employee or not, you have to match them up with team members that been with you a while and let them know that this person is their mentor and guide while learning the profession and the pace of the workplace.
What else would you like our listeners to know?
Rather than being frustrated with your team members based on their traits, sometimes you just have to accept that that is how they are, and thats just the way it is. No matter what age group your team members are, everyone wants to be happy at work, and they want to feel appreciated and heard, and everyone wants to be part of something great. Give them a goal that everyone can stand behind and be proud of and everyone will thrive.
